Video surveillance firm VOCORD, a resident of the Skolkovo IT cluster, has unveiled a new traffic monitoring system called Cyclops able to collect evidence of violations across four lanes simultaneously.
The product, which – as the name suggests – features a single-lens camera as well as a microphone and infra-red scanner contained in a metal box, can also multitask.
It captures and stores information about a vehicle’s make and model; identifies license plates from various countries; and analyzes and reports traffic flow data such as the volume of cars on the road, their average speed and distance between them.
Cyclops is the latest traffic-management solution from the firm, which last year unveiled VOCORD Traffic, a system that optimizes vehicle flows at intersections.
Cyclops can be deployed as an extension to the VOCORD Traffic system or independently.
“It’s a ready-made solution all in one – the hardware and the software,” said VOCORD general director Alexei Kaydeshvili, referring to Cyclops.c
Naturally, Cyclops also spots 15 kinds of infringements, including: speeding, failing to give way to pedestrians, illegal lane crossing, driving too slowly and illegal parking.
Most importantly, perhaps, is its ease of use. Each unit takes no more than two hours to install and can be placed anywhere, from city highways to country lanes. The high-sensitivity equipment is built to function in harsh weather conditions, too.
Cyclops underwent successful testing in the Kazakh capital, Astana, during the first two months of 2015, the company said, opening the door to large-scale implementation in the Russian regions later this year. Sights have also been set on foreign markets.
